How we conduct the study
- Consultant explores the site to establish its purpose and intended target audience. This is confirmed with the client.
- Technician checks the underlying HTML/XML code from a representative sample of pages. This code is the foundation on which the website is built and it is therefore essential that only valid code is employed.
- Technician checks that the page content is structured correctly and that subsections headings, lists and data tables are marked-up correctly. Also checks that any functional scripts have HTML/XML alternatives provided.
- Technician checks that any style sheets (CSS) are valid and comply with WAI guidelines
. - User panel is selected and provided with survey instructions and a set of agreed tasks
. - Consultant collates user panel feedback and follows up any queries.
- Consultant collates the draft report combining input from the technicians and user panel members with his/her own research including screen shots and explanatory text where appropriate.
- Consultant and technician draw up a recommended action plan.
- Final report is compiled, proof read and prepared for dispatch.
Reports are written with reference to the WAI guidelines (version 1) issued in May 1999. To help with transition to version 2 guidelines (currently in draft form) the report includes a baselines for technology and target user. Wherever practical current guidelines are also mapped against the draft version 2 guidelines. If you would like to discuss which of the WAI priority levels your site should meet please contact us
